Good day PS group..

This senior citizen needs some assistance.
Using PS CS2.
Trying to put 12 images size 3.25 x 5 onto a 10"x20" page.

Have pics sized okay but they need to be in a certain order using contact sheet.

Everytime I load them they appear in random order. Even rename files 1 thru 12, but still do not appear in the 1-2-3 order I need them. Do not see a way to rearrange images.

Should I use another method or can someone help this senior citizen get his grandson’s 12 images in order !

Are you trying to copy the 12 images into a common photoshop document, or are you using something (Bridge maybe) to generate a contact sheet from a list of files?

I suspect the latter, and will be of limited use in that regard, as I don’t really use anything but Photoshop proper. I would suggest, though, that files named 1 to 12 will sort like this:

1
10
11
12
2
3
etc…

That’s probably not what you want. Rename files 1-9 with a leading zero (01-09) so that they will sort *alphanumerically.*

I’ll wait for you to elaborate before making additional speculations.

1. Creating a blank canvas. example 10×20 x 300dpi (or whatever you want)

2. Opening 12 photos (either all at once or one by one is up to you), and it seems like you already know how to do that.

3. Drag_n_Drop 12 photos to the 10×20 canvas. CS2 will create and store 12 photos in 12 separated Layers.

– You can give 12 photos/layers 12 different names. Example 1 to 12 would do so you know where to place them.

– Hi-lite each layer then move (using the Move or Arrow tool) any photo/layer to any where you want. You can also LOCK the layer so it won’t move moved until you unlock it.

4. Flatten the photos (Ctrl+Shift+E I think) then save the final to hard drive

CS2 has few other options to deal with multiple photos, but I don’t use them to know all detail to give you.

Hi, first rename all your files so they’re either numeric or alphabetical in sequence.
As someone else pointed out, images 1 to 9 need to be labelled 01 to 09, otherwise the sequence will go all to pot.

Next, open PS CS2 and go to the "File" menu, select the "Automate" sub-menu, and choose the "Contact Sheet II" option.

Once the configuration window appears, you need to select your source folder for your images.
Next, in the same window, set the resolution and the dimensions of your final contact sheet.
next, again in the same window, decide whether you want the sequence of thumbnails to unfold verically or horisontally, and also define how many rows and colums you want.

Now click Okay, and Photoshop will start processing. Lots of windows will appear and disappear, and when they’re finished, you’ll have your contact sheet.

But the key to getting the images in sequence is definitely in how you name them.

Hope this helped some.

If you used automate> contact sheet to make your file make sure to check the box that leaves them in layers then you can edit and move them after, no resizing needed
or as suggested rename them first with numbers in order how you need them, then make the contact sheet
OR
create manually one by one as described new document, drag each to it resize etc (tedious and longer)

FILE>automate>contact sheet (customize size of paper first inthe drop down, select number of images per page (12) say OK, done

what’s the difference how old you are?
