Hi all!

I’ve tried Extract filter for selecting a person. Sometimes it works fine but sometimes it doesn’t seem to do a right job, especially when the background colour is similar to the countour of a person. I’d like to learn how to select including wispy hair or fur. What do you think is the best way to do it? I tried masking for this purpose too. I used Levels to create a grayscale mask but again, this seems to have limits depending on colours.

Thanks!
Ben

Work on an image that you have modified using curves for more color contrast, save the resulting image as a mask, and use that mask to extract the original.

The a or b channel of Lab mode, after suitable curving, often makes a good mask, and might work well as input to the Extract command. —
