After the first click on an image in PS CS, the toolbar and image go blank so that no further work can be carried out! This is a new installation on my system, running windows XP on AMD XP 1700+.

I have 512 RAM and 40GB of available disk space, video card is a Radeon 7500 series.

Also at the outset following installation there was a message "Currently have Adobe Photoshop primary paging file on the same volume, which can result in reduced performance. It is recommended that youset Adobe Photoshop primary scratch volume to be on a different volume, preferably on a different physical drive"

Will this last item be causing the blank screen?

How do I rectify the scratch volume?

Thanks for any advice.

Ian

Ian,

Will this last item be causing the blank screen?

No. Think of that message as a courtesy message. It is telling you that from a performance standpoint, PS tends to operate faster if it can place its temporary files on a separate drive. This is changed in your preferences (Edit|Preferences). If you don’t have a separate drive, then set it to C: and the message should go away. You are not crippled in any way if it is on the same drive as the your OS, and all but the most extreme of circumstances, you won’t ever be able to tell the difference.

In regards to the blank screen, you should try this as a test. Go into control panel and launch the System Applet. Find Video Hardware Acceleration and set it to NONE. Then see if the problem is still happening.

If it goes away, it means buggy video drivers. The latest drivers are not always the best. It means that you should either get the latest or roll back one version of video drivers.

Peace,
Tony
