I want to put a bunch of pics onto a cd so that I can watch them on tv. Is there a built in function in PS CS to allow this. (I mean a player, I know how to get them to cd). Or can you just put a cd full of jpegs into a dvd and see them? Can I get some help on this?

You may want to try using Roxio Easy CD/DVD creator 7, version 6 if you have windows 98. They have a program that can put your images into a viewable VCD or DVD format.

David,

I haven’t heard of CS creating slide show CDs, but then again, I don’t know much about CS compared to most of the other folks in here. I do it the second way. I just place a bunch of photos on a CD and run them from my DVD player. How well this works for you depends on your DVD player though.

The one I paid over $200 USD for about 5 years ago didn’t play them at all. When that one went bad, I replaced it with one 2 years ago for $100 USD that would let you pick through them one at a time. The one I bought for the bedroom and paid less than $40 USD a few months ago runs a slide show and allows me to set the time to view each one before the other one loads.

There’s one thing to think about though. All the photos have to be oriented correctly before you burn them to CD. If not, if you are picking through them one by one, you can rotate them as you look at them, but it’s a hassle. And if you run it as a slide show, you don’t have the option of changing the orientation during the slide show.

The manual that came with the newest, cheapest, and fanciest DVD player doesn’t say anything about the slide show feature other than “This DVD player play Kodak Picture CD”. I guess the best way to see what works for you is to just dump some photos on a CD, stick the CD in your DVD player, step back and watch. If you can pick through the photos one at a time, good. If it runs a slide show, better. If there’s lots of noise and even a little smoke, unplug the machine immediately!!!

I have about 1000 digital pictures from a trip to Alaska. Also, our friends have just as many pictures. (1) What is the best way to rearrange the sequence of our pictures? For example, on our second day in Anchorage I took a picture of the Anchorage Visitors Center. I want that picture to appear first. (2) What is the best way to integrate our friends pictures into ours at a sequence of our choosing?

Gary,

It’s been my experience that the photos display according to file name.

For most digital camera pictures, the file name is in some way connected to the order in which they were taken. Some modification my be in order there though.

PS CS browser would be ideal for this as it is very flexible as to how many thumbnails you see at once, how large they are, ranking them, etc.

You could also just drop them into a folder and viewing in the thumbnails from Microsoft Explorer in the thumbnail view. Rename as appropriate to get them in the order you wish to view them at. To get a friends pictures into the mix, use a file re-naming utility to get the names close to yours. To get a picture between P100234 and P100235, rename the one to get stuffed in as R1002345. If you want one between the first one and the one you just stuffed in there, call it P10023455.

Is this a big task with so many pictures? Certainly! How much work you want to put into the project is up to you. You may want to break it up into segments and work on it over time. Create a departure CD, an airport CD, a whale watching CD, etc. If you get too tied up in it all at once, you may loose interest and give up.

Does this make sense to you?

You can always use the Nero VCD option. Start a new VCD project and drag JPG’s in instead of video clips. The disk should be playable in any DVD player that supports VCD’s (Usually more compatible than Photo CD’s). Include an autorun file and a photo viewer for a disk that will auto play in a computer or DVD player.

My favorite (and easiest) program for creating a Video Slideshow is MemoriesOnTV. This is not necesarily a Photo CD, but it is the best program for creating VCD, SVCD, and DVD video slideshows from your pictures. It supports multiple albums and easy orginization of your photos. You can also add Soundtrack and store the original Photos on the CD/DVD to be viewed using your favorite PC graphic application (as this is the Photoshop newgroup we will assume Photoshop as your favorite graphics application).
