I had a seemingly OK upgrade to Win XP Pro Service Pack 2. (I have Norton Firewall on the computer.)

But then I tried to use Photoshop 7. I can open it and use it but now it frequently freezes the mouse and I have to do a bad shutdown-reboot. I never had such problems before the upgrade to Service Pack 2.
Would an upgrade to Photoshop CS help this problem?

If I upgrade, what is the best way to do it:

1) Uninstall Photoshop 7 and install Photoshop CS (probably no good, since Photoshop CS has to find Photoshop 7 on the HD.)

2) Install Photoshop CS in a separate folder and then uninstall Photoshop 7.

3) Install Photoshop CS over Photoshop 7. (But this runs the risk of keeping the Photoshop 7 files which in conflict with Windows XP Service Pack 2.)

Thanks, CMA

Not sure is CS would have the same problem.

You don’t have to have 7 installed on the HD. When you buy the upgrade to CS, it will prompt your for the files for 7 or earlier. You can send it to the CD-ROM and have it check out the CD for 7.

You may want to keep 7 on the drive though because you can fall back on it in a pinch if you need to do some rush work and don’t have the time to do it in CS, even though most things done in 7 can be done the same way in CS. Also,if you run into an activation problem as a limited number of CS users have, you can just run 7 till you get it straightened out.

It is always a good idea to clean your system before doing a major install.
