Whiteout in Photograph

I hope you can help me with a problem photograph I have … I gave a friend my camera to take a picture of me and the wife at a party and forgot to check the settings first, from what I can tell the camera was mistakenly set for night photography and the picture was taken on a fairly clear and bright evening resulting in what I would call whiteout of the front of the building, sky and part of my and wife’s hair as the person taking the picture was sitting in a chair and wife and I were standing. I was wondering if anyone has a solution to fixing this as id love to be able to fix this whiteout so that the excessive brightness is taken away without ruining the picture.
