I hope the subject wasn’t too confusing.. what I’m trying to do is to create an image that fades out in one end, but instead of fading out to transparent (or blending in with another color) I need to show the fading part as dots (or little squares) getting progressively smaller (like the Windows 98 logo when booting). I tried using a mosaic effect, but the boxes where too irregular in size and spacing (between the boxes).. and they don’t get smaller at the ends.

I hope someone can help me!

Thanks!

have you tried creating a pattern out of a small amount of dots…then define that pattern(edit>define pattern)…use that pattern to fill a layer above the one you want to apply the effect to…create a layer mask for that particular layer with the pattern…now use a b&w gradient until you get the kind of fade you want..then adjust the opacity or try multiply…until you get it the way you want…

if you want an irregular pattern…you could try creating a single line of it..then duplicating the layer and moving it to get the spacing you want between lines…keep doing that until you get the pattern you want…

try using a mask if you want it to be applied to an image, but if you just want the pattern you may want to do it using the circle or square select…

i know Illustrator has what youre looking for in its effects panel if oyu happen to have that available to you……
