Hi there.

I’m new to Photoshop CS3 and want to use the Unsharp Mask filter on the following photo

http://www.flickr.com/photos/85947342@N00/1451921059/

in order to make it less blurry.

Can anyone recommend the ideal settings for Amount, Radius and Threshold?

Many thanks in advance.

I usually use 14, 1.5, 0.
Small steps are better, so I repeat at once or sometimes twice. Larger images, maybe even three times.

There are a number of techniques. For basic sharpening, I generally use a small radius – .5 or so – and a large amount 150 or 200. With the particular camera I have, this gives a nice edge to things, without adding halos that plastic/metallic sheen that is characteristic of over-sharpening at a larger radius.

Google also for HIRALOAM (high radius, low amount). That is a contrast enhancement move.

Experiment – it’s free.

I like the "Focus Magic" Plugin for Photoshop. The image you supplied is obviously badly out of focus and is very small. Here is a couple minutes in CS2 and Focus magic plugin. Still not very good.

You will make it sharper, not blurry. Try filters>Gaussian Blur,

I think I got pretty good results by increasing the contrast by 20, brightness by 25, and adding a simple "Sharpen" from the Filter menu.
