Right now I have a ABIT Siluro GF4 MX graphics card with 64 MB of ram. The fan has gone on it and I don’t know where to get a fan for it. So therefore I am in the market for a new graphics card.
I am an immediate class user of Photoshop CS3 and use it a lot for pictures of my family that I bring into Photoshop and do a lot of work on them there.
My motherboard has an AGP socket for the graphics card. This computer that I need the card for is a 2.25 GHz. I have 1 gig of ram installed. I am in need of a fan if anyone knows where I can get one or suggestions on what card I should get or the names of card that will be good for my use. Also how much ram should I get a card with? I am not a game player but also watch movies on my computer. Thanks for your help.

The system requirements are: 64MB of video RAM
Since Photoshop doesn’t need a 3D card just about any modern card will suffice to some degree.

You can contact the card manufacturer about where to get the fan, but is probably quicker and cheaper to just get another fan that has at least 64mb of memory.

Photoshop does not use and does not benefit from an accelerated 3D graphics card. Any card that fits in your computer will be just fine for Photoshop. You can spend money on a high-end graphics card if you want to, but it won’t make the slightest bit of difference to Photoshop, and Photoshop will not use its 3D acceleration.

Graphics cards are cheap. I got one from Dell for under $90. But be careful. If you go to more than 64MB of graphics card ram, it may well draw more wattage than your old one. and damage your motherbord. That’s what happened to me. I got the FUZION card that draws 250 watts that the Dell techie recommended and it damaged my motherboard so that both of my DC/DVD burners disappeared from my Dell PC and will not work. So far Dell disclaims responsibilityand will not respond to my emails.

You reply here makes me nervous. I’ve just ordered a new graphics card (ATI 100-436012 Radeon 9250 256MB) which was recommended, as I needed a compatable card for a new Samsung 22" 226BW monitor. My computer is a Dell Dimension 2400 and the system and motherboard is about 3 or 4 years old. Has the problem you have had been wide spread and do you have any links to sites I could read to understand the potential problem?

Doesn’t PhotoShop CS3 Extended make use of your 3d card? I think it may. Regular version of PS CS3 wont I suppose (as it has no 3d stuff).
