the more I hear the more I want to keep some of my old features from CS like gamma for one
and NO IMAGE READY I WILL HATE THAT
b/c I hate MM products and flash programs

hearing the web gallery don’t work the same and bridge is buggy and a lot of the other complaints
it is making me very wary of installing it
the features in the good column for me would be
new selection options all in one dialog
not sure it is enough to support the time to re-learn so much

so you say Kat keep both but I also heard lot of problems with that too

Bridge has always been buggy, so no change there.

As for CS3 being a Vista. The problem with Vista isn’t all of the bugs. Like Bridge Windows is loaded with bugs and Vista is no different than XP, 98, 95, etc. The problem with Vista is the changes that Adobe made to interface and how you do certainly things is just horrible. No more menu bars. Ever folder you open has all of the ratings crap and shit like every folder contains music files, video file or images. You have to manually go in and turn on the data and other things. That is the problem. Also, the UAC is a pain in the ass and so on.

CS3 is nothing like this. It stills works for 98% of things just like previous versions of Photoshop. As for ImageReady well ImageReady was brain dead from the get go, that is why they took it from a standalone program you paid money for to giving it away from with Photoshop. Second, Adobe gave plenty of warning that ImageReady was going, that warning came in the form of ImageReady not being updated in Photoshop CS2. So you had plenty of time to find something else. It should also be pointed out that 90% of ImageReady is in Photosho CS3, the 10% that wasn’t put in are things that at least according to Adobe are no longer in wide use on the web and have been replaced by other techniques or technology. Like it or not the world moves on. Keep up or you had better have a good map so you don’t get lost.

As for Flash I agree, I hate flash only web sites. They are just the shits. However, for somethings like animated graphics used on a regular non-flash site it is great.

IR should have been killed years ago IMO. However don’t panic, everything that IM used to be able to do is now built right into PhotoShop. PhotoShop CS3 has gained an Animation palette.

b/c I hate MM products and flash programs

If you want to do online animation, Flash is your only option these days. Almost nobody does commercial GIF animation any more – the files are to big, the results look terrible and it’s very time consuming to produce… verses the tiny, slick, interactive things you can do with Flash.

hearing the web gallery don’t work the same and bridge is buggy

Web Gallery really always was a pointless feature in a professional application like PhotoShop. There are plenty of cheap alternatives that work a lot better. I’ve not touched it since it first appeared in PhotoShop.

and a lot of the other complaints

People fear change 🙂 Do it, you won’t regret it. I love PS CS3!

it is making me very wary of installing it

Re-learn? They’re very little difference in the core features. If you are a pro user, you’ll probably be using key combinations for most actions so even the new UI will be no hurdle. Otherwise, well the new UI is great once you get used to it… much more efficient.

so you say Kat keep both but I also heard lot of problems with that too

I ran CS3 and CS3 along side on my Mac with no problems, but ended up uninstalling CS2 after a week as it was clearly outclassed! I’ve not hit any problems with CS3; bridge has never crashed for me, PhotoShop and Illustrator are a LOT faster now. I could never go back!

As for comparing anything to Vista… what a horrible insult 😀

thanks for your informative replies

If you want to do online animation, Flash is your only option these

I used to be able to export from Image ready as a flash and that was important for me
I could get the swf animations w/o learning the Flash interface (I hate it) I could use the PS frames interface and export as flash
is that option still there?? or >open layered document in flash?

The UI is the same as the PhotoShop CS3 and Illustrator CS3 interface now. Flash is now a fully Adobe program, looks and behaves the same.

There’s no Explore to Flash or anything like that in PhotoShop CS3. You can copy and paste between PhotoShop & Flash, as Flash now understands PSD files (and Illustrator files). Illustrator fully supports the Flash format as well. Inside Flash you can open a PSD and it provides you access to all the layers (and layer effects!).

I think Adobe really want everyone to buy the entire suite 🙂

BTW SpaceGirl, Photoshop CS2 also had the animation palette. The difference is it is more advanced in CS3 and you can even switch to Timeline mode for limited (far too limited, in my opinion) keyframing.

Okay, guess I never came across it. Can’t say I’ve really done any animation in ImageReady in a long time too. I either work with Flash or video sources.

It isn’t shown by default, you have to go to the Window menu and the select it.

Kinda moot now, as I don’t have CS. Only have CS3 on my Macs now, but thanks 🙂

If you don’t have to, don’t do it. It’s crap, IMO. CS2 works fine for me and it’s 10x faster.

Use DNG converter to use RAW files from cameras CS2 ACR does not support and continue using CS2.

Seems to be OK for Macs but I’ve yet to hear from Windows people who use CS3 everyday and are ecstatic.

Hi Group

Just following this link I now wonder if the new Intel/Macs are able to run CS2 on the ‘Mac side’. It seems as if CS3 is OK on Macs (Is that on the Intel/macs?)
Also does anyone know if CS3 runs on the Intel/Macs using XP. I ask these questions as I am planning to upgrade my G4 Mac to one of the Intel/macs. I would rather a user gave me the info than a salesman

I’ve seen so many problems with the full CS3 Production Suite Premium (or whatever it’s called: PS, AI, Premiere/Encore, AfterEffects, etc.), that I’m not ready to upgrade yet. Right now, my CS2 Production Studio does all that I want, and I have few, if any, problems. Maybe CS4, who knows?

I use CS3 on Vista on a daily basis. I LOVE it compared to CS2. The differences in Bridge is worth the cost of the two. I hated Bridge in CS2… I have to admit my Bridge in CS3 DOES crash a lot… it opens right back up, but it hasn’t been enough to keep me from doing work, (I’m a professional freelance photographer).

I’m just learning some of the new 3D features in my copy of CS3 Extended, but for now, I really dig the changes, UI and changes in CS3 in Vista. I wouldn’t have said anything positive about Vista 3 months ago, but the updates MS has added have made it much more stable.
