need some hardware suggestions

We are hiring someone to handle our photoshop work (working with stills and some graphics) and I need to build them a computer. I have to stick with PC for various other reasons and I was wondering if anyone had any hardware advice… other than get the fastest processor and maximize the ram. I’m looking for more motherboard/harddrive/video card type recomendations… We’ll be using the CS3 suite.

Dual or quad core CPU.
Use 32 bit OS, preferably XP as Vista has many problems, including color calibration stability.
With a 32 bit OS, XP or Vista, only 2gbs of RAM are actually usable. Two discrete hard drives for virtual memory, swap file.
RAID if you must with hard drives to match.
The video card depends on the monitor: a large LCD with a high resolution will require a card with dual DVI output. Dual video cards are not useful unless you plan on multi-monitor support and even then there are many problems involved.

Thanks for the help…. a couple of quick questions though… so are you saying I need a system drive, then a drive for virtual memory and another drive for swap file? Or can these be partitions of a system drive? And do you see any advantage to using the WD Raptor 10000rpm drives over the newer 7200 ones? And I’m assuming that you prefer single drive configs over RAIDs?

Buy them an intel Mac. You can run your win software one it, yet keep the machine from ever — for an reason whatsoever — connect with the outside world.

Than you’ll have a healthy computer, built ground-up for the software you want the person to use, and they won’t have to use that ancient and just sad operating system.

Just a thought.
