You need to get offline for a while Margaret little to serious ’bout capital and lowercase….i would appreciate some help and not USELESS REPLYS…i used caps so u would know which part is the error, so there is no confusion. Thank You to any one who can answer my question.
You’ve written an essay about downloading 4000 fonts of unknown/random origin and that you are surprised that something doesn’t work. (In any large set of random font files, some will likely cause problems because they are not all created correctly.)
Is there a question? If so, please pose one in standard English.
Basically can PS7 handle over 4,000 True Type Fonts? I would guess yes so why isn’t it working…yes ive uninstalled reinstalled….THIS IS ENGLISH
At least one font is corrupted. Not all fonts are created correctly; some older files and some home-built font files have problems.
Many of us install core fonts, plus some more we use all the time, and a few we really like, and think we’re going to use. Many of us have a large selection of fonts available, but we avoid installing them all at one time, because it causes slow-downs in many applications that compile lists of available fonts each time they start, or when you request a font change.
Some argue that 200 fonts is enough; others like to have as many as 1500.
Try moving half of the fonts out of your font folder, then run Photoshop. If it still crashes, put the fonts you took out back in and move the other half out.
Eventually you’ll find the bad boy – IF there is only one bad font. But in 4,000 fonts, I am willing to bet there are quite a few bad boys.
Also, it is highly recommended that you use a font-management utility, such as Adobe Type Manager. This allows you to keep your font collection in manageable sets.
You will notice that Photoshop – and other apps – take less time to load, and run more efficiently if you have fewer than 200 fonts active at any given time. Less is more!
By the way i found the bad seed…it was just 1 font out of 4000…Adobe Type Manager flashed a RED ‘X’ over it real quick when i activated and deactivated the whole list, so that program helped alot, now i can leave all the fonts in…THANKS AGAIN DENNIS!!!
brian 4k fonts is putting a beating on your system. pick and choose and keep it to a couple hundred for best performance. you don’t need to delete the ones you won’t use all the time, just use atm to create sets and only turn on a couple hundred at a time.
Brian;
I would get myself a copy of Adobe Type Manager and group all of your fonts into sets. Then you can activate and deactivate the sets as you need the font styles.
You will find that although some Office applications will work with that many fonts activated, overall the system and the apps will run a lot slower.
Hope this helps.
I can never understand why anyone needs more that a few dozen fonts. ATM gives you the opportunity to have the best of both worlds.
Actually, having seen some wonderful examples of "ransome note typography", I can see why some peope think they need a lot.
Oh for the days of Win 3.11, when more than about 50 fonts would bring th eOS to its knees before you started actually running anything. 🙂
