50% Gray?

If I use the Color Swath and set a color to ‘50% gray’, the corresponding RGB values are 147, 147, 147.
As black is 0, 0, 0 and white 255, 255, 255, I would expect it to be 128, 128, 128. Can someone explain this to me?

Hmm. I get 129,129,129, perhaps because the color swatches are defined in CMYK mode and there is some numerical error when converting to RGB. If I turn on the web-safe color option, I get 153,153,153, since 50% gray is not a web-safe color. I don’t know why you’d be getting 147,147,147.

Look under Color Settings in the Edit menu and check what your gray working spaces is set to. If I had to guess I’d say you have a pc and your gray working spaces is set to gray gamma 1.8. Set it to 2.2 and you should read 128 for 50% gray.
