I have been taking photos in 4:3 format with my Olympus C8080 digital camera, which is capable of producing photos in either of the above formats. I have several shots that I would like to print in 16" X 20" color shots. The folks who create these for me prefer 3:2 format digital files. Is there a way to convert my existing 4:3 format photos to 3:2 format using Photoshop CS?

Ed,
I think the only way to accomplish this is by cropping. Otherwise you will lose the proportionality. You can open the image file and double click on the layer in the layer palette to "make a layer." Then go to Image > Canvas size and enter a size representing the correct proportion. This will allow you to see the difference in proportion between the desired dimensions and actual ones. Then you have the choice of cropping some of the image out or leaving some empty space in. What you don’t want to do is drag an edge vertically or horizontally to fill up the empty space as you will the correct proportionality.

It’s sort of like the problem with DVDs where you have the option of viewing in wide screen or letterbox. The letterbox version leaves stuff out.
