convert to greyscale and save image

reduce number of colors (of grey) to 16 and save image

then play around

should get you much of the way there

Image->Adjust->Curves. Darken it up considerably, especially in the midtones.

You can use the very same basic tools, and if you don’t know how to use some basic tools then I dunno what advice I can give you.

– Using Layers and Quick Mask to replace the background with whatever you wish

– Using Level, Curl (?), Color Balance, Color Selective (?) or whatever to change to whatever color you wish. BTW, I suddenly forgot the names of some command <bg>

– For the darker/brighter effect (like the sample) you can use Dodge/Burn tool.

And those are the basic basic commands that you need to know, and if you know those basic commands/tools then you should be able to do just about anything you want to do.

make the cut out dupe it to another layer
don’t change to gray scale
try some filters like edges or emboss they will turn it bw anyway then invert to get mostly black instead of white

Tnx a lot to all !!

I have used yours advices.
I also used Image->Adjusments-> Match Color
Image-> Adjusments->Levels
i also put skin in separate layer and robes in separate layers to loose monotony of colours

I saw the originak has strong effect, and that you can easily archive using Dodge/Burn tool.

I don’t often use Dodge/Burn tool on regular photo, but for art and one of my photogaphy style (single strobe/tube against black/dark background) to get strong hi-lite/shadow then I use Dodge/Burn a lot to increase the value that the strobe/flash alone can’t archive the max..
