When I use the lasso tool and hold the mouse button down to draw a selection that takes more than 4-5 seconds, my monitor goes completely white. Everything but some outlines of the PS desktop/work area totally disappears until I release the mouse button, then everything returns to normal. I have absolutely no other graphics or performance problems in any other program or application. I’m using PS 7.0. My setup is:

Athlon XP2500+
768mb RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video card, 128mb DDR RAM
21" Sony Trinitron monitor

Does anybody have a clue as to what’s going on?

Thank you,

jakesnake

In your preferences, how much memory have you allocated to Photoshop? And how many history states are you using? Is your scratch disk size adequate? Does the problem occur on small files too?

It sounds like a memory problem to me.

Thank you!

I reduced my history states and and bumped my memory usage a bit, and the problem is corrected.

I really appreciate your help.
