A friend has a photo of a skein of flying geese silhouetted against a grey cloudy sky. Is there any way in which I can enhance the photo to get some details in the geese without actually washing out the sky altogether, please?

Can you use the magic wand to select each goose and make adjustments to the individual geese?

Thanks, will try that, but it’s going to be a bit fiddly as the geese aren’t very big, but we’ll give it a go.

if you have version CS, could you try the highlight / shadow function?

No, only Photoshop 7. I have managed to achieve acceptable results using the "Magic Wand" tool with the Tolerance set to a level that selected all the geese but left the sky unselected. I was then able to adjust the contrast and brilliance on the geese.
