I have scanned some old B&W photos that are printed on pebbled paper. The pebbling somes thru on the scan and makes the resulting print look awful. Is there a way around this?

Maybe you could lower your contrast when you are scanning. Play with your scanning settings involving "source", such as; matte print, glossy print, other print. See if that helps.
