Hi,
I received an email regarding purchasing a APS7 learning CD for around $80. For starters I am interested in working with improving JPG format pics. Is the help file adequate for this or do you recommend the learning CD? Thanks

CD videos are a great way to learn, but you can learn from books too.

in Photoshop you work with layers to which you can import any format, jpg is only another file format usualy for output for finished works.

You mention that jpg is basically a finished output format; what I have are jpeg files taken with a digital camera, what format do I import them into Photoshop as? Thanks

yep the camera outputs them as .jpg but when open them in photoshop they become PSD files while you work on them, allowing layers etc then when your finished you can out put again in .jpg but its also a good idea to save your work in psd format should you want to revisit them for further editing as the .jpg would degrade with each successive save.

Thanks for the pointer! Basically I’ll be looking to improve the pic quality (brighten/sharpen etc.); what basic tools will be used in Photoshop to accomplish this? I will be borrowing a photoshop 7 book/cd.. thanks in advance.

Must agree – Digital Photo is a great magazine. I’ve been attending a 10-week Evening Class at my local Adult Education Centre on Photoshop Digital Image Manipulation, but I’ve learned more from the three cover CDs that came with Digital Photo since the course started :-)) Mind you, the course only cost me £12 – the magazines are £5 a month 😉 —
