Hi Scott!

Off-hand, I’d say to extend the "handles" of the text at the extreme left and right of the image and "center the text".
I might be completely wet, though ;-(

Cheers,

Marcel

You can link the text layer to the postcard layer and then use the alignment tools in the tool bar for the move tool. The selected layer is the layer to which the other link layer aligns. So if your postcard shifts way to one side, you’ll know that the text layer was selected, not the postcard layer, as it should’ve been.

If your postcard is multiple layers with possible layer portions lying outside the borders of the image, you might want to create a temporary empty layer, select it, and link your text layer to it. That way it will be certain to be centered.

Linking the layers – still not been able to guarantee its centre in the page – extending the hadles seems to be a good option. Question is how?

I can select the text by double clicking the layer but cannot get the handles to show so I can pull them to the edge of the postcard.

OK – sussed to get the handles up -I think – eg select text, press Ctrl key but when I strect the sides – it stretches the text – I just want to extend the box – ideas?

Try this.

Make sure Snap is enabled, Rulers are visible and your layers aren’t locked or linked to other layers. Select the postcard layer and Press CTRL+T as if you were going to change it’s size. Instead of changing the size, drag a guide out to the center point of the transformation box. Do this horizontally and vertically. Then press ESC or Enter to get rid of the transform request. Then select your text layer and again press CTRL+T to get the transformation box to appear. Use your arrow keys to nudge the text so the center point aligns with the intersection of the guides. If you need to change the size, you can do that too by grabbing a corner and pulling. Holding SHFT will constrain the proportions. Press Enter to keep the transformation.

When I want to center/align text I put a vertical guide line in the center of the photo. Then using the move tool I drag the text. When the center of the text crosses the guide it will jump (detent) to it and the text will be centered.
