I am kind of searching for a needle in a haystack. I received a slide show on CD which does not tell me what program it was created in. I would like to make copies of some individual photos on the CD but all I have is my file name.exe. (Of course the person who gave it to me would like that I pay him for whatever copies I need and I do not intend to do so) Other than that the only clue I have as to the program that was used to create this is that the icons for each photo file is red and has 4 kind of oval shapes in the icon. Like a messy clove leaf. I glimpsed this on the screen of the person who gave it to me. Any idea what program has icons such as described?

If you have a PC, go to My Computer and right-click on your CD drive and choose Explore.
Then go to Tools > Folder Options > View and look a the "Hidden files and folders" option and make sure "show hidden files and folders" is selected.

This may give access to the image folder.

If not, you can always open up Photoshop. Then play the slide show and press the "print screen" button on your keyboard. This will place a copy of the image on your clipboard which can easily be pasted into a new window in Photoshop.

Note: I’ve not been able to do this with DVDs.

Thanks for your response. I have "show hidden files and folders" selected. I cannot open this CD in Photoshop. It is running its own program and when I hit print screen I get a message that the author does not allow any copying of graphic info.
I need something more in depth to get into this.

it might be a program from acd-see or photodex that has the images imbedded in the show program and can not be altered (such as speed of dissolve or type of dissolve) and so you have no access to the image files.

It is neither of those – they have different icons than the one I explained. I downloaded the free trial of acd-see and tried running my slide show but it is not that either. Thanks for your response. Anyone else? "shmidy" wrote in message

I would get a file chopping program, cut the exe file into pieces and open the first piece in wordpad. Sometimes there is a header, I guess it’s called, that identifies the program. If you try to open the whole exe it might clog up wordpad.

perhaps edlin from the command prompt would work better. I just tried it on an exe and a gif file and only got info on the format of the gif file: nothing on the exe and nothing about the creating program in the gif file, so maybe this is not a good idea.

Altough I’m not sure if I should help you steal from someone (but some nice (made up) story why you don’t want to pay for it, is always nice reading stuff), but on the other hand, it’s always fun to try and beat the dang technology.

Maybe you can try printscreening with a third party program like: http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/ (it’s free)

This program will allow you to choose you’re own shortcut for ‘Print Screen’, so maybe the CD will not recognize that other shortcut as being a Print screen shortcut.

Printing and scanning could be an (desperate) option too.

It worked before on some other files and might on his.
Good question though. : -)

If the author does have it protected, as you say, why are you attempting to bypass that? Is it a wedding slide show that you are attempting to illegally make prints from?
And, why are forum readers giving you hints on how to bypass the protection that the author placed in the slide show?
