Hi all!

I’ve tried recently to upload an album of photos on Internet using Photoshop CS’ using "Automate, Webphoto Gallery". Although I get a good result on my PC, when I upload the whole thing to my website, I get disastrous results. I was told this was due to the frames Photoshop uses.

Is there a software which would allow me to group a bunch of photos, such as a marriage or holiday in Rome 😉 and upload them for people to view as a particular album?

Thank you for helping,

Marcel

Michael,

I’ve earmarked your first suggestion. It looks like it might be a great way of doing it. As fort Yahoo, I don’t like them (here in Ottawa, Canada, my local ISP, Rogers has signed up with Yahoo and Geocities, with disastrous results. Geocities has adds and Yahoo filters our e-mails. That’s one of the reasons I went with someone else instead of Geocities and don,t want anything to do with Yahoo. ;-(

Regards and thanks,

Marcel

I second the recommendation of jalbum. I’ve been using it for quite a while and nothing can be easier once you initially set up the program. If I need to give people a quick look at some photos I took of a particular event, I can get a page made and uploaded in a matter of minutes. Adding or removing individual photos, or entire subdirectories, from the album in simple.

Here is the ‘main’ page I’ve made using it:

This sounds great, Curt.

Please explain. I suppose I install jalbum, then I get to make an album by giving it a title and putting photos into it. Once done, how do you upload? My other question is how is the website organised? Is there some sort of framework that allows new photos to be uploaded or do you have to organise an album each time? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I don,t have the faintest idea of hoe this works although it seems great. You see, with fototime.com, once you’ve given a name for an album, all you do is upload photos and the rest comes naturally. You may show on the page 5 or even 10 albums and you delete them or modify them. Does jalbum work the same way? Thanks for your patience.

Once you organise your photos on your hard drive (using sub- directories as needed, these will be turned into ‘folders’ on the site) you basically just run the program. It includes a built-in FTP server, so if you have a website to publish to it will automatically log on to the site and upload the pages.

Note: This is ONLY the software. Jalbum.net does not provide you a site to post your album to.

If you need to make changes (add/remove/re-organize photos) to the site, all you have to do is make the changes to your local files and re-run the program. It is smart enough to rebuild and upload only the changed files.

For more info, read the documentation on the site, it is pretty comprehensive.

Hi —

I haven’t seen anyone mention the possibility of using MSN spaces… it allows you to just browse and upload pictures (10M space) to the web — free hosting, if you will — into a template that you get to choose. The pages can be easily tweaked to include just a photo album, with or without captions, or you can include other components (including blog space) that you choose from a list.

Here’s a family-oriented one that includes a couple photo albums, on the upper right. http://spaces.msn.com/members/jgrantmarshall/

You can add and delete and reorganize your space as often as you wish. It’s very easy. Sorry if I sound like an advertisement — it’s really just that easy!

Cheers!

Hi Everyone!

Thanks to all. I took your advice and downloaded JAlbum and installed it. You’re right. Easy to do. Many ways of showing off the photos. My only problem was to upload the whole thing to the right spot. I was a bit off, so I transferred the files using WS_FTP Pro form one folder to the other. No sweat.

My wife is an iconograph and I wanted to illustrate the "making" of an icon (65 steps) as an addendum to her webpage. For those who are curious, the photos with explanations (French) are at:
http://celestart.com/images/confection_icone
Her webpage is at: http://celestart.com/

Thanks again and best regards,

Marcel
