In elements 3, when I open a NEF (RAW) file I notice when I check under Image -> Mode, RGB is checked. How do I know if I’m working in sRGB or Adobe RGB? How do I save in Adobe RGB?

I have D70 and Canon i9900. If not publishing to web should I set camera to sRGB or Adobe RGB? Can elements support Adobe RGB. What printer settings should I use if I print from camera after setting it to Adobe RGB (or would you just set it to sRGB)?

MacBook Pro 16” Mockups 🔥

– in 4 materials (clay versions included)

– 12 scenes

– 48 MacBook Pro 16″ mockups

– 6000 x 4500 px

When you "save as" rather than "Save for Web" you should have a tiny box for sRGB in the color option portion of the "save panel" that can be checked or unchecked. I don’t have Elements 3, but that’s my hunch.

You might want to check out this too, as it deals with a similar question and a Canon 10d camera:

Thanks, but still a little confused. I plan to shoot with D70 and print to canon i9900 (not publish to web), editing with elements 3. And yet still not clear if it’s advisable to shoot with camera set on Adobe RGB (vs sRGB which is the camera default). For now I’ll leave it at Adobe RGB as I’m getting some mixed messages, until I hear a compelling reason to put it back to default.

I’d stick with the Adobe RGB as you’ve done. Publishing to the Web should be via the "Save for Web" command anyway, not "Save As." So should you decide to publish to the Web, keep that in mind.

I have both PE2 and PS CS, but not PE3 … But maybe PE3 is similar to PE2 in the color management settings.

In PE2, if you pulldown Edit > Color Settings you get 3 selections to set your color working space:
– No color management
– Limited color management – optimized for Web graphics <<<This is = sRBG
– Full color management – optimized for Print <<<This is = aRGB

You are really asking fundamental questions about color spaces and color management.
Adobe includes good basic info on these topics in the help files of your program and on their web site.
Although you have a Canon printer it may help you to subscribe to the Epson Print Academy on line course about color managment and printing. Then when you understand color management you will realize you have a great printer seriously hobbled by Canon’s color management protocols.

Until I get myself this educated, would you suggest I set my D70 camera to Adobe RGB (vs. sRGB) if I plan to print, as opposed to publish to web, using PS elements 3 and i9900 printer? What are others doing? I’ve gotten some conflicting advice and would appreciate any advice.

Thanks. This is what I’ll do for now. Also under edit ->color settings, I’ve checked full color management. I hope this is correct.

In case you don’t already know, there are also very good forums (including D70 and Printers) over at
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/
…. the Printers forum has a lot of good info about the i9900.

Thank you, and I shall. Hope to educate myself more in future. So much to do and so little time.
