Thanks again for all the help so far.

I have a text logo that I want to fill with a texture from the product that the company sells. I have a picture of the product that has a sort of a tan texture covering. How can I take that and fill the characters in my logo (they are letters but big enough that they can be filled)?

Thanks

There are lots of tools for creating and manipulating masks, but there is no "masking tool" in my Photoshop 7 manual or help.

i havent really tried what you are doing…but my guess is that you can save a selection as a pattern (again guessing here….go look in the presets and see what type of file they use for patter overlay…and save your pattern there)…..then using layer styles select your new pattern as an overlay. if you havent messed around with styles you should really check them out.

You could always create an image that just has enough of this texture to fit your text….then copy and select your text (after you have rastered it)…and use paste into.

i think the other respondant was refering to a layer mask…but im not much of a manual reader myself and they were quite vague

best o luck

Aside from the fact that logos are better created in Illustrator, you can do it in Photoshop this way:

1. If the texture image is as large as your logo, load it. If it is too small, take a section of it and make a seamless pattern out of it and then fill a TRANSPARENT document the size of your logo with the texture pattern.

2. Bring in your logo and situated it directly below the texture layer you have just created. (you will not be able to see the logo at this time)

3. Clip the pattern to the logo by holding down the opt or alt key and moving your mouse cursor (hand) on the line between the texture and logo layers in the Layers Pallet. When you get it in the correct spot, the hand will change to a different cursor. Click the mouse button and the texture pattern will be "clipped" to the logo.
