Henry,

I used it once out of curiosity (I have a Canon Pro 1, but I usually shoot in JPEG) and I found it quite good actually. In the window that opens, there controls for just about everything, plus an advanced window for other controls… I found it at least as good as the Browser that came with the camera.

Adobe just posted the release version of the Camera Raw plug-in yesterday. It is still shown as version 2.4, but no longer carries the Beta designation. I shoot almost 100% RAW (Nikon CP8800) and use the ACR plug-in with Photoshop CS. I have had no problems at all with it. The only potential problem is if you load Nikon View or Nikon Capture after loading Photoshop or Elements. Both Nikon files put a seriously impaired version of a RAW converter on top of Photoshop’s.

If you shoot raw the Adobe converter is more convenient that the Nikon and comes with the software. Evidently the Nikon software allows more automated batch conversions but you can perform similar batch conversions with the Adobe software by saving a particular conversion profile you create and applying it to subsequent images.
