Hi everybody,

first, I look for a way to rotate my holiday pictures since some of them are vertical. Is there a way to do this in Photoshop CS without re-saving them and loosing some quality? There are several small programs on the internet that can do this, by just changing the JPEG code without recompression losses. Since everyone says "Photoshop can do everything", I guess it can do this.

Second, I would like to write a script for Photoshop CS that can identify whether a picture is vertically by dividing its width and height and then rotate it if necessary. Afterwards I would like to put this script in an "action" to be able to apply it to a whole directory. Anyone knows Javascript that well? Or has anyone ever written such a script?

Thank you very much!
Nico

Hi!
To my knowledge, you can’t do it in Photoshop CS without saving. Use IrfantView or ACDSee, but if it asks you to save, you haven’t chosen the correct procedure.

What about the rotation feature in the "photoshop browser"? Does this keep the quality?

At least there should be a plug-in or something else in addition available ??? Adobe cannot ignore, that this is one of the most often tasks, photographers have to do!

Thanks,
Nico

Nico,
You’re right about the Browser, except that it won’t keep. Modifications done on the browser are retained in a special place. If you change your pictures from one folder to another, then you must export the icons of the browser (or something like that) otherwise, modifications are not retained unless you save that particular pic again.

No, all PS leaves alone is the file name. However, it really takes several resaves to make noticeable difference in the image.
So, if all I wanted to do was change the orientation, I would just do it and not worry.

Can you really see a loss of image quality with one rotation? I cannot.
