What do you think the purpose, if there is one, for society having and propagating words that can’t be said by children and are looked at as crude by adults… ?

It seems to me that it creates a long standing source of anger in people by restricting their freedom of speech, ie by saying that because they are children that they can’t say certain words while it is obvious to the children that the words have a lot of energy and are important to parents in their self-expression, in many cases…

Thanks for your responses…

Well … I know you posted it in the wrong news group … but IMHO a reply is in order.

The (habitual) use of vulgar language, or "curse words," is simply an indication of a person’s *lack* of intelligence, education, or "social status."

However, if the person is actually intelligent, has a good education, and does possess "social status," it quite possibly might be done "for effect," or to get (demand) attention.

And much better to look at by adults if a little bevel and emboss and maybe a drop shadow is added.

The above has some merit but please consider intense frustration and anger as a cause. Intense frustration; anger over circumstances and people, overloading the senses and nervous system is a dreadful situation to be in. I know.
Then, the cursing and lashing out at others (deserved or not), occurs. What do you do when every door is closed to you and you still have a lot of energy? Seeking creative outlets, or going to the gym helps. A little recognition is good now and then and builds up low self esteem. Making money is great. A shopping spree can be therapeutic too.
You have to give it to get it, so practice kindness and be gracious to people. We are all in the same "boat" here on earth. So who is really "better" than another? Comparing yourself to others can cause problems for yourself.

It’s interesting that this thread is continuing, even though it was meant for another ng. My intent was to look at the effect that restricting the speech of children and introducing the idea of ‘dirty words’ on children. If anyone wants to join alt.philosophy, I encourage it. Any ideas about what you think about restricting children’s speech, arbitrarily, it seems to me, would be appreciated.
