I’m using PS-CS and it’s been a while since I used Automate>Batch. Now I find this option greyed out on the Automate menu. How do I get it back, please?

Try resetting your preferences per the procedure in the faq.

Thanks, Mr. YrbkMgr, but resetting Preferences had no effect on my problem. I’m running XP Home and have been using PS-CS w/o seeing this problem for perhaps 18mos.

As you probably know, resetting preferences can be tricky. It resets all of your custom settings to the defaults. So if you are SURE that they’ve been reset, you have nothing to lose by reinstalling as anything that you had customized has been reset anyway. So try reinstalling.

Otherwise… <shrug> I don’t know. It should be available.

The only way I could recreate the symptoms you reported was by deleting all action sets from my Actions Palette via the Clear Actions command. (Note: I backed up my Actions Palette.psp file first.)

Check your Actions Palette…

There are actions in it, right?

Danny–

You got it! πŸ™‚ I couldn’t find any info on my symptom (nothing in Help, PS FAQ, or on this Forum, so called Adobe TSuppt. Somehow my Actions Palette had been "wiped" (I have no idea how), and if you have no Actions present, then Batch is "greyed out". I have restored the default Actions PS ships with, and will go about re-creating the few I actually used.

Thanks a lot, and congrats for your sleuthing!

Paul:

Did you by chance install or recently upgrade Norton Antivirus? If so, the following may help. It’s from a tutorial (update in progress) I’m writing on actions…

293.1 "Symptoms: I just installed Norton Antivirus 2004 and itΒ’s setup for an automatic weekly virus scan. After the most recent virus scan I brought up Photoshop and my Actions Palette was completely blank, as though IΒ’d executed a Clear Actions command. Fortunately my Action Sets are backed up, but itΒ’s a pretty big hassle reloading my Actions Palette every week."

In this case an obscure Norton Antivirus setting caused this problem.

Corrective action:
* Locate option Norton Plug-in for Microsoft.
* Turn off the Enable plug-in setting.

Danny–

I ron XP Home without SP2. I use a h/w firewall router from Netgear. Yes, I have Norton Anti-Virus throughNorton SystemWorks 5.0, and it updates automatically. I found an option under the Options Menu, Miscellaneous, called "Enable Office Plug-In" and unchecked that. It was the only "plug-in related" thing I could find on my menus. Will this help me?

Thanks again,
-Paul
