Hi there-

Came across an ad online which looks just like something that I’ve been attempting to do.

<http://server2.uploadit.org/files/BostonGuy-cutout_ad.jpg>

I’ve been converting color pics to BW, playing with the levels and contrast and then applying the cutout filter but can’t quite get things right. Either too little detail showing or too much depending on the image.

I did a search on google for tutorials using cutout filter, cartoon, etc… but have yet to come across anything that fits. Any ideas on a better way to achieve this look or even a better way to search online? Would this be considered a cartoon/block print, etc…

Thanks,
Rick

Searching for: Photoshop tutorial "Che Guevara" or "Andy Warhol" should work.

Here’s one I found:

Rick,

You might try converting your grayscale images (256 shades of gray) to Bitmap images (just black and white) and play with the threshold slider until you get something that you like.

Rick,

Phosphor’s suggestion looks even better. His message got in a minute ahead of mine. You’ve got to be a fast typist here (grin).

Thanks, guys! I’ll play with them… Here’s one that I did before I saw your responses… Not quite the effect that I want, but I’ll play around with different options. Any other suggestions are still welcome however as I seem to be in this forum all the time…sigh..
