Hello,

I have approxamitly 3000 photos in jpeg format which I am in the process of of removing the background from. The reason I want to do this is because I need a white background for print and a blue background for the web. I am wanting to store them in a format where I can easily change the background colour with a script.

The problem is I don’t know what is the best format, when I save them as GIF with a transparent background the quality of the image is very slightly grainy. I can save them as PSD but the file is huge, ie 5mb a peice.

Can anyone suggest what format I should be using?

Thanks you so much for your time even if you dont know the anwer! Thank you
John

Use another format like PNG, that supports both 24 bits color and transparancy.

However the 90% of people are using IE, and IE does not support full alpha channel transparency. So it is totally useless.

I didn’t mean the full alpha channel. My IE (v6) displays "normal" transparancy of PNG correctly…

Different version of IE do different things, but this may well help. see here:

There’s no harm in working to keep the Mozilla community happy. 🙂 http://www.koivi.com/ie-png-transparency/

Also.. let’s help fix it.
