Example:
I have a large image layer that I only need the upper part of. I have slid it towards the bottom of my canvas, and now a large part of the layer "hangs over" the bottom edge.
In other words, it is not visible outside the canvas edge, but it is still there if I move the layer back up.
I want that excess to go away, trimmed off even with my canvas. Since the part in question is outside the canvas, I can’t select it to delete it.

Question:
How can I delete the part of a layer that is outside of the canvas area? I know I can select all>crop, but is there another method?

thanks in advance – this one has bothered me for a while…

Make the canvas larger, then move the image so the whole thing is on canvas. Then you can either cut and paste to a new canvas, or trim.

I’d select what you can see on the canvas, layer via cut and delete the layer below.

Right click the layer you have, and select layer via cut. Or
Layer–>New–>Layer Via Cut (but you do need a selection) This will produce a new layer from the selection, hope it helps.. it is VERY useful.
