In my honest opinion and I don’t think I am in error here posting to this newsgroup could be to put your problem into the hands of some very strange people. One consequence of this is that you may get some unedifying comments. Indeed rather than get a solution you may well be subjected to ridicule and abuse. Any solution offered here should be well considered and further advice taken before implementing the changes suggested. The person giving the advice may not be doing so out of malice. They may well just be stupid. Lets face it you could be taking advice from the usenet equivalent of the Village Idiot!!

It might help if you grasped one very salient fact about this and other news groups, they are now inhabited mainly by nutters who due to care in the community (the failure of) have time on their hands voices in their heads and no where to go. Once you have fully grasped indeed understood this point you will post any queries you have in moderated www groups and avoid this one. There are of course other well meaning and well balanced posters but they tend to be in the minority.

Web groups tend to be moderated by a group of well balanced, well informed and well meaning regulars. Adobe software, graphics and photography www groups are well regulated and contain archived material well worth visiting. The advice offered is generally done so by knowledgable individuals motivated by good intentions. There may well be the odd nut but the moderators have a way of dealing with the problems which they create. However, you may stand a better chance in a moderated www discussion group.

Regarding this newsgroup, my advice would be, be kind to but avoid the afflicted because they are so full of torture that the only way they can relate to others is to dish out pain.

What you have above is my honestly held opinions. Whilst there are well meaning and well balanced individuals contributing to this newsgroup, very few I grant you, others may well not fall into this category.

I hope you find this information useful.

Well said, Harry, and you are not in error. Though I would say that at the present time, things are actually pretty good – provided you use your news reader to filter out some of the worst offenders.

We are a group here. The best way to deal with trolls, and insults, is to answer in a way that furthers those of the group. Most of the time this means taking a deep breath and ignoring them – knowing full well that sometimes this is too much to ask.

But I would stop short of saying that the group is mainly characterized by insults and other poor behavior. There are any number of good people here who will answer your question as best they can. The trick, for all of us, is to pay attention to them, and ignore the others.

Thanks again, Harry, for a sentiment that is well worth saying. —

Harry found these unused words:

What you have above is my honestly held opinions.
Harry.

Opinions are NOT FAQ’s …

ALT groups are not ‘regulated’ and readers should never expect to be spoon fed their pablum.
