In my honest opinion and I don’t think I am in error here posting to this newsgroup could be the one action which puts your problem into the hands of some very strange people. One consequence of this is that you may find yourself the target of some unedifying comments. Indeed rather than get a solution you may well be subjected to ridicule and abuse. Any suggestion or solution offered here should be well considered and further advice taken before implementing the changes suggested. The person giving the advice may not be doing so out of malice. They may well just be stupid. Lets face it you could be taking advice from the usenet equivalent of the Village Idiot!!

It might help if you grasped one very salient fact about this and other news groups, they are now inhabited mainly by nutters who due to care in the community (the failure of) have time on their hands voices in their heads and no where to go. Once you have fully grasped indeed understood this point you will post any queries you have in moderated www groups and avoid this one. There are of course other well meaning and well balanced posters but sadly they tend to be in the minority.

Web groups tend to be moderated by a group of well balanced, well informed and well meaning regulars. Adobe software, graphics and photography www groups are well regulated and contain archived material well worth visiting. The advice offered is generally done so by knowledgable individuals motivated by good intentions. There may well be the odd nut but the moderators have a way of dealing with the problems which they create. However, you may stand a better chance in a moderated www discussion group.

Regarding this newsgroup, my advice would be, be kind to but avoid the afflicted because they are so full of torture that the only way they can relate to others is to dish out pain. There is one other rather interesting observation. You will find that once a nut identifies a target some, not all, posters who in the past have behaved rationally and with great civility will join in the kicking with great panache. I often wonder about the pathology of this behaviour. Considered well thought out contributions on this phenomena would welcome.

What you have above is my honestly held opinions. Whilst there are well meaning and well balanced individuals contributing to this newsgroup, very few I grant you, others may well not fall into this category.

Thank you for your interest.

I hope you find this information useful.

Harry.

PS. as this document is still in draft form all comments are welcome some more welcome than others.

Is your post one of those comments? It seems very… strange. I took a look at hillside.co.uk as well. Who’s Maggie then? Or is these Pete in disguise 🙂

D’you have anything PhotoShop related to post?

You’re new to usenet, aren’t you? It’s rather gauche for some clueless idiot to pop into a group and try and foist off idiotic opinions as a FAQ… have you ever read a FAQ before? Seriously? What you barfed out there doesn’t resemble one at all…

Unfortunately Maggie (AKA HArry – depending upon day and dress) is one of the ‘new’ webbies believeing that "SOMEONE" should oversee their ‘experience’ and "PROTECT" them from the real world.

Apparently he/she/it’s got an agenda and now joining the TROLLS.

If you want the posters here to draw up a FAQ for newbies, you would have been better off stating that and asking if anyone was interested in helping out. It’s never wise to come into a group and insult the posters there, even if what you said was right, it will never win you any friends by insulting the entire group. This group can be hard nosed at times, but I’ve found that it’s only that way when people ask questions, are given answers, then refuse to listen to the answers. The majority of the regulars here are very knowledgeable and helpful, and they always seem to be ready to help those who want help.
