I’m loooking for suggestions abou how to print my color photographs,

I have a Canon Relel camera, save my photographs in RAW format, and use Photoshop Elements 4 on my Windows XP computer. Photoshop displays my images quite well. My problem is that the resulting images are not printed well by my HP 930C printer. I’ve experimented extensively with the ptionter settings, but have’t been able to get the printer to work to my satisfaction.

I realize that the printer is old and probably needs to be replaced. I’m looking for suiggestions for solving the poblem I have with my 930C printer or recommendations for a printer I should buy to replace it.

Hi.

It sounds rather like you may need to get involved with Colour management.

Have you Calibrated your Monitor ?, in other words do know if it is showing the correct colours.

If it is a CRT then Adobe Gamma, which you will find in Control Panel, can make a reasonable job of it.

If it is a Flat Panel, then you will probably need to use a hardware device.

If you buy a new Printer from Epson or Canon, then the Printer driver will also install ICC Profiles which Elements can be set to use to ensure correct colours are Printed out.

Colour Management is not easy, but it is not rocket science either. ( if I can do it, then anyone can).

Roy gives you probably the best advice so far.

I am just slightly ahead of what your doing. I just purchased a Monitor Calibration Tool "Colorimeter" this past weekend and it really does make a difference. I also purchased a small pack of Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl and downloaded the paper/printer ICC Profile from there site and I still cant get over the new quality I have with this old CRT Monitor.

Really impressive stuff. Its not difficult, just slightly time consuming and you do need a little bit of patience.

There is nothing wrong with using a 930C for photographs. Do use glossy paper though, and inks from the manufacturer at least to start.

Can you be more specific about what is wrong with the images? —
