It might help if you grasped one very salient fact about this and other news groups, they are now inhabited mainly by nutters

As one who makes every effort to contribute to this group, being lumped in with a bunch of nutters is very helpful indeed. Thank you Paul.

Or is this just the biggest troll this month? If so, ya got me fair and square.

In my honest opinion and I don’t think I am in error here posting to this newsgroup could be the one action which puts your problem into the hands of some very strange people. One consequence of this is that you may find yourself the target of some unedifying comments. Indeed rather than get a solution you may well be subjected to ridicule and abuse. Any suggestion or solution offered here should be well considered and further advice taken before implementing the changes suggested. The person giving the advice may not be doing so out of malice. They may well just be stupid. Lets face it you could be taking advice from the usenet equivalent of the Village Idiot!!

It might help if you grasped one very salient fact about this and other news groups, they are now inhabited mainly by nutters who due to care in the community (the failure of) have time on their hands voices in their heads and no where to go. Once you have fully grasped indeed understood this point you will post any queries you have in moderated www groups and avoid this one. There are of course other well meaning and well balanced posters but sadly they tend to be in the minority.

Web groups tend to be moderated by a group of well balanced, well informed and well meaning regulars. Adobe software, graphics and photography www groups are well regulated and contain archived material well worth visiting. The advice offered is generally done so by knowledgable individuals motivated by good intentions. There may well be the odd nut but the moderators have a way of dealing with the problems which they create. However, you may stand a better chance in a moderated www discussion group.

Regarding this newsgroup, my advice would be, be kind to but avoid the afflicted because they are so full of torture that the only way they can relate to others is to dish out pain. There is one other rather interesting observation. You will find that once a nut identifies a target some, not all, posters who in the past have behaved rationally and with great civility will join in the kicking with great panache. I often wonder about the pathology of this behaviour. Considered well thought out contributions on this phenomena would be very welcome.

What you have above is my honestly held opinions. Whilst there are well meaning and well balanced individuals contributing to this newsgroup, very few I grant you, others may well not fall into this category.

Thank you for your interest.

I hope you find this information useful.

My honest opinion is try to be just like a normal people.

– Your opinion won’t be any more special than anyone else’s

– Read the answers before asking question been asked and answered

– Report the result to let the helper knows if the answer helps or not

– Don’t be pissed if someone don’t agree with your opinion

And the similar, basic, standard, general … and you don’t need to be more honest than that.

Paul is correct. Take everything here for a grain of salt. If the answer to your question is verified by several others then go with it. Just don’t jump with the first answer you get. The answer is just something to start your hunt for the correct answer, at least it will start to push you into the right direction.

Actually, this is one of the better Photography newsgroups. Several others are run over by spammers and people who just want to start arguments.

For better answers for your photoshop/elements/premier questions just go to Elementsvillage forums at: http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/index.php anybody who gets out of hand gets booted. Its a moderated group.

Hi Paul,

on the topic of being articulate – why do people insist on using the expression IMHO (in my HONEST opinion)? An opinion is an opinion; if you believe something which happens to be incorrect, that does not make it a dishonest opinion, it just makes your opinion wrong. By using the word honest you are almost implying that other people give opinions that they don’t really believe.

Before you say it, no, I am not one of the nutters in this group. I am just curious why the expression is so widely used and part of it is superfluous.

Best regards,
Brian.

There are some right shit houses around who do post nasty unhelpful and indeed down right insulting stuff in this newsgroup. And there is no need for it. They are easy to spot and avoid, but, there is a more malignant entity! Some people who appear rational well adjusted and dare I say it helpful individuals who, when a newbie is getting a kicking from a shit house join in the injustice. With great panache may I say! (I have yet to see this phenomenon being the subject of *rational discussion* anywhere!)

Anyway, have a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year…..and many of them. (If you are of some other persuasion, I wish you and yours what you wish yourselves.)

I am not a politician. Their opinions aren’t always honest!! As I said in my original post, I expressed the opinion that I could be wrong.

Could we get to the opinions expressed and not waste time on how they were expressed?

Or are you all trainee trolls?

Who decides which people are "civil", and even more subjectively, "helpful"? My take is that some posters are terse whose tips are extremely useful while others gush on forever and give useless advice. You may find the terse but helpful people objectionable. I certainly don’t want you deciding who should post in here and how they ought to do so.

There are some right shit houses around who do post nasty unhelpful and indeed down right insulting stuff in this newsgroup. And there is no need for it. They are easy to spot and avoid, but, there is a more malignant

So, if I want to avoid the posters you consider "nasty unhelpful" and "insulting" I can killfile them, but if I want to avoid your whining about them I can’t because you are guilty of EMAK? Are you aware that unlike being "unhelpful", EMAK is a TOSable offense with some providers? My eye, your eye, mote, beam.

In my honest opinion and I don’t think I am in error here posting to this newsgroup could be the one action which
puts your problem into the hands of some very strange people.

I often
wonder about the pathology of this behaviour. Considered well thought out contributions on this phenomena would be very welcome.
What you have above is my honestly held opinions. Whilst there are well meaning and well balanced individuals contributing to this newsgroup, very few I grant you, others may well not fall into this category.

Thank you for your interest.
