Hi,

I’m using PS7 and have selected a segment of an image with the Magnetic Lasso tool. However, the selection was not perfect since the mouse slipped on the way to closing the path.

So how can I edit the path after the MagLass tool has done its job? In other words, how can I get the crawling ants to crawl over a slightly different area?

One way is to use the ordinary lassoo tool to chop bits out or add bits in. Just hold down Alt if it’s doing the opposite of what you want.

If I were you I would use the masking tool instead – or having made your selection with the Lasso – go to the left hand toolbar and just below the foreground/background colour indicator there are two oblongs with circles on them – click the right hand one (edit in quick mask mode -or press Q) and use the paint brush tool with the black colour to remove the selection or white to replace – when you are done press the other oblong or Q again to return to your amended selection. When in mask mode the colour indicators turn to black and white.
You can also choose a soft or hard brush depending if you wish a sharp or feathered edge.

Another clean way to do it is to go to paths palette, convert selection to path, and then edit the path using the path selection tool (type the A letter). This will allow you to fix your path with great precision. Then you can convert the path back to selection. And volla!
