Chris,

One thing you might want to check is if your HTML code is referring to a Images subfolder. ImageReady puts any graphics into that folder so you need to make sure you copy (the whole folder) to the same folder as your HTML file. And make sure the code references match.

I ran into this problem and had to do some fiddling to make the HTML code work properly. The fact that it works in ImageReady and, I presume, in View in Browser, tells you that the code is good. But if you do any moving around of the HTML code and/or the Images subfolder, you need to adjust accordingly.

Sorry my message offended you (or sent you into rant mode, at the least <G>). One thing I like about Adobe forums is that they allow users to recommend non-Adobe products when one feels they do a better job. I happen to prefer Fireworks to IR, as a much easier tool for doing rollovers and other Javascript functions.

I have to admit I haven’t built a remote rollover in IR, and didn’t know it was possible. I’ll have to play with it some time. But I suspect that it will not be as simple as the Fireworks method. (Based on how complicated IR makes a normal rollover.)

I prefer FW. I will continue to recommend it, at least until Adobe/Macromedia kill either it or IR. (If it is FW that is killed, I hope that it’s added functionality is incorporated into whatever is left … I don’t care what they call it, but I hope they don’t waste a good tool.)

Don,

I understand where you are coming from. There are several things that Image ready doesn’t do well that other animation and web programs do very well. Under the right circumstances you can get much better results and lower file sizes than fireworks could ever hope to achieve. At the same time I am sure there are many times where the same holds true for Fireworks, Ulead, GIF Construction Set, etc…

I used a demo of fireworks 2.0 I believe it was shortly after it came out. There were things I liked and things I didn’t. I use image ready exclusively for file optimization for JPG’s, GIF’s and GIF89a’s. I don’t care for the poor design that it promotes in the growing number of image based web sites. I am seeing far too many web sites that are made up of 70 or more slices.

What it comes down to is that IR does most of what I need it to and if it doesn’t I am not against finding something else that will. I think given what is probably a stronger user base in the Dreamweaver\fireworks combo you probably don’t have much to worry about. I just hope they do a full integration of Photoshop an Image ready before killing image ready.

Here’s a video tutorial that shows how to do remote rollovers in ImageReady. As simple as point & shoot…once you know how ;).

If you don’t have an Adobe ID yet, you will need one to view the videos.
