I didn’t realise that Flash looks even better on large screen (as in projected) displays. With the right sound balance it should feature in night clubs

Must-have mockup pack for every graphic designer πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Easy-to-use drag-n-drop Photoshop scene creator with more than 2800 items.

erm – I guess what I am saying is that it should have more application than purely web-based.

Try a development program with a couple of hi-flying DJs to see if it is feasible, do-able and desirable

It’s a loss for us all.

Less competition means less motivation on the part of the manufacturers, and more shareholders with more control wanting a quick buck.

A "race to the bottom", I think.

Just my 2 cents.

This sucks! Adobe taking over Macromedia will send Flash right down the tubes. Can’t wait until we get to start registering a whole bunch of other software. Adobe is like the Government. Anything they are they get their hands becomes more costly and less appealing.

I’ve been using Adobe products for 15 years, and I’m willing to give them the benefit of their track record. Some releases have been less than stellar like StopDead, which they ruined, but nobody’s perfect. I don’t think Adobe management is stupid and I’m sure that they will run the two companies separately until they can figure out the ‘instreaming’ of products.

I am sure that we will not see much happen for at least a year and I’m not willing to waste time wringing my hands over anything at this point.

It has been a big shock to MacMeds, they have a concern for the products they have taken an active interest over the years, but we will all live. If what they are saying about this amalgamation being to hold the line against MS Longhorn, then there is the motivation to be innovative.

Huh? Next year? Don’t they realise that time is time?

Out with the accountants and in with the creatives I say.

I’d expect at least a roll-out 7 days after acquisition – don’t FGS let the bureaucrats near it – at least for the first 18 months – please, pretty, pretty please?

OMG – I can imagine it now, we’ll interface our accountancy package with their’s but that will take time. How long? ( 6 time 3 divided by pi squared then cube rooted = 24 months) In the meantime we can shuffle all that paper from over there to this point here, resort it and post it over there ….

3. Freehand if there is anything interesting it should be canabalized
and the unique and useful features added to Illustrator.

Adobe could have/should have adopted many of FH’s capabilities long ago. FH is a much more productive environment. If you think not, I have just two words for you: Finger Dance.

Allow me to quote from the Zen of Illustrator:
The second key to mastering Illustrator… is perfecting your hand/eye coordination. In Illustrator, this translates into being proficient enough with the ‘power-keys’ to gain instant access to tools and functions by using the keyboard. With both eyes on the monitor, one hand on the mouse, and the other hand on the keyboard, an experienced Illustrator user can create and manipulate objects in a fraction of the time required otherwise. The second part of this chapter helps you to learn the ‘finger dance’ necessary to become a truly adept power-user.

I laugh myself silly everytime I read this. The really pathetic part of this is, it’s TRUE. Why? How many Selection Tools does Illy have? Half a dozen? How many different tools does the user have to invoke to create a point, add a point, delete a point, convert a point? How many "shortcuts" require both hands? The list goes on. There’s very little of this nonsense in FH. Illy users who disdain Freehand either have their brains wired *way* different or they just have never taken time to learn the program.

I hope what Len said is true, that due to FH’s licensing scheme (as it existed in the Aldus days), Adobe will HAVE to try to sell it and won’t be allowed to kill it.

Nope, not gonna happen. It has been clearly stated recently by Adobe that the two companies must and will run as independent companies until the acquisition takes place. It’s only then that they can start the real work. You’re looking at more like 7 months after acquisition and not 7 days.

Illy users who disdain Freehand either have their brains wired *way* different or they just have never taken time to learn the program.

Anything you know how to use always appears to be easier than something you don’t know how to use. I’ve never gotten my fingers tangled up while using Illustrator.

Neither have mine. Though I agree some FH feature should be assimilated into AI, in case Adobe is not forced to sell the program and not kill it…
I’ve read that this acquisition won’t be completed until next fall, and that even a new version of MM Studio MX will be released before the end of the year (!) this could take a couple of years to actually see the light…
I have to say I * h a t e * the MM interface at times with those damn drawers you have to be hiding or showing all the time (I have not found a shortcut for the ones on the right, donΒ΄t give me the F4 crap, it’s not what I need), and that I have a thing for Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, but for much ‘excitement’ the idea of having a whole suite of apps that share UI, formats and such brings to my disbelief filled soul, I’m not very much into the monopoly thing, just for the sake of having an option there should be a couple of heavy weight programs to choose from on each category… if GoLive and FreeHand cease to exist that will no longer be the case. That simply sucks.
