Anyone know how to do pathing in 7.0? I used to do it all the time in 6.0 and it was fairly simple. Use the Pen tool to trace around the object, placing an anchor point with each mouse click, then once finished with that, I think it was just click Cut and it eliminated everything outside of the traced object and made that space transparent. With 7.0, not only does it not work the same but I’ve not been able to find any instructions anywhere that explains how to accomplish the same thing.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to make a selection, then select a tool other than the pen tool, or deselect the path in the paths palette.

Well, thanks but that doesn’t help much, and doesn’t accomplish what I’m after. I’m looking to remove the background from the object. If I deselect the path, the path just goes away and accomplishes nothing.

1. You need to make a selection. Highlight the path in the palette and click on Make Sleection, or COntrol+click on the path in the palette.

2. Delete will probably just delete the selected points or segments from the path if you have the pen tool active, so switch tools or de-select the path in the palette.

3. Press delete or backspace to delete the selected pixels. You might need to invert selection (Control+Shift+I) first.

4. RTFM.

It works the same way in 7 that it did in 6….

Make sure you are using the Standard Pen Tool, and not the Freeform Pen Tool. The Freeform Pen draws smoothly, like a brush stroke, but then closes the path and fills it when you unclick. Just hit Shift+’P’ to toggle between the two.
