Photoshop, XP Views in My Documents

Been having some problems lately with the way XP stores my PS images.

I generally keep my Photoshop renderings in the My Pictures subfolder of My Documents, alternating between the Filmstrip and Thumbnail views. Oddly enough, however, about 10% of the pix have the wrong names in the miniaturized view; i.e., they have other file names, not the ones they were originally given. Perhaps I’ve stated this badly. What I mean is that about 10% of the file names do not accurately represent the correct corresponding picture, but show something else, a totally non-related picture.

In the larger viewframe names and pictures match; just not in the smaller. This makes it difficult for me to access the pictures I want from within Photoshop since the wrong name is attached to various pictures.

Does anybody know how to correct this or why it is happening? Has anyone else had this problem? I honestly think this is a problem with XP, but since it involves how I utilize Photoshop, I thought I would ask it here.

Select them all, right-click, choose properties, then "refresh thumbnails" or, turn off "hide hidden & system files" in the options for any Explorer folder view, then go to your corrupted folder and delete the now-visible thumbnail database file. Windows will generate a new one for you.

BTW, the thumbnail database file is called thumbs.db. It can get corrupted when you have Photoshop and Windows Explorer doing things to the same folder at the same time. I find I can generally avoid this and worse problems (like a corrupted file system) if I never have an Explorer window open on the same folder where I’m using Photoshop. And Photoshop and Windows Explorer
crash less often if I use the Photoshop file browser to open files instead of Files->Open.

Or make sure you use the NTFS file system.
