I’ve got a Canon i9900, which does a fine job on color, but it’s not great for B+W. I’m an old zone system junkie and probably a bit spoiled (OK, I’m really spoiled with B+W)

I’ve seen a couple of photo printers that can run multiple shades of black and gray to get better B+W, but I can afford to spend the money for a new printer only for B+W.

Does anyone know if there are any companies that make high quality B+W cartriges to convert an older color machine into a top quality B+W printer?

If not, why not? This seems like a wonderful idea for an enterprising manufacturer. I can’t be the only one that would buy into such a system, can I?

Philip,

I’ve been looking at some of the Epson printers and they have a grey ink cartridge that gives them a good shot at printing a better grey scale in B&W. I haven’t seen any prints yet, but its a good place to start the hunt.
