Now that CS2 is shipping, here’s an update based on what I’ve picked up the past couple weeks:

* NAPP discount has been announced: $10. Doesn’t do me any good because I live in the state of Washington, where hefty sales tax would be added. I’m better off buying at <http://www.pcmall.com>. where the net price with s/h is less than going through Adobe and applying the NAPP discount.

* No, preferences files won’t convert straight across (no surprise).

* The jury is still out on portability of Actions Palette.psp from CS or PS7 to CS2. If that’s doable, it would be a bonus for me.

* re:

danny, you forgot "have fun playing with all the new toys!"

Dave makes a good point. Learning about all the new bells/whistles and having fun doing it was a serious omission. πŸ™‚

Anybody else think of other things that would need to be considered?

Questions welcome, too.

Now that CS2 is shipping,

IT IS?!!

I got my copy straight from Adobe on Monday. They gave me a free upgrade since I had just purchased CS in March, right before they announced CS 2. Well free plus the cost of shipping ($5.95). Can’t beat that!

I had no trouble importing my .atn file full of customized actions. It moved smoothly from 7 > CS and 7 > CS 2 also.

actions and custom brushes can be saved out as files from CS, and loaded into CS2 To save a set of actions
Select a set.
Choose Save Actions from the Actions palette menu.
Type a name for the set, choose a location, and click Save. You can save the set anywhere. However, if you place the file in the Presets/Photoshop Actions folder inside the Photoshop program folder, the set will appear at the bottom of the Actions palette menu after you restart the application.
Press Ctrl+Alt (Windows) or Command+Option (Mac OS) when you choose the Save Actions command to save the actions in a text file. You can use this file to review or print the contents of an action. However, you canΒ’t reload the text file back into Photoshop.

To save a set of preset brushes as a library
Choose Save Brushes from the Brush Preset picker menu or Brushes palette menu. Choose a location for the brush library, enter a file name, and click Save. You can save the library anywhere. However, if you place the library file in the Presets/Brushes folder inside the Photoshop program folder, the library name will appear at the bottom of the Brush Preset picker menu and Brushes palette menu after you restart Photoshop.
You can also use the Preset Manager to rename, delete, and save libraries of preset brushes. For more information, see About the Preset Manager.

For those who are migrating from CS to CS2 and defined keyboard shortcts in CS, they will need to be redefined in CS2.

If you’re coming from a version prior to CS, creating custom keyboard shortcuts is something to investigate.

Danny, it’s prolly been suggested before, but run the Total Training cd on disk 2 of your CS2 disc set. It’s a short and sweet way to get acquainted with the new stuff. I have and I’m trying out things I sure would have missed πŸ™‚

5/12/05 – IΒ’ve surfed this forum a bit and come up with this summary of interesting (to me) threads related to my future CS2 migration.

Best price for CS2 upgrade: $114.99 + sales tax if applicable. Free shipping. * Apply for a no annual fee Visa credit card at Amazon.com (Chase bank) * If approved, get $30 credit towards first purchase using it. * Amazon price for CS2 upgrade: $144.99 – $30.00 = $114.99 * If you live in a sales tax state (I do), they’ll tack on for that * Free shipping on orders over $25

Just did it. Works dandy.
