Duplication layer makes photo within a photo

I duplicated background layer, and when done doing some work, notice that there was a photo on top of a photo. Hard to explain, but had to delete the new copy layer. I’d like to avoid this in future, wondering if anyone knows what heck it means. In other words, you see the original photo, and then behind it is like stacked another photo there.

Looks like you nudged the top layer whilst working on it. To prevent this from happening, make sure "Snap to" is set ON in the View menu.

thanks Chris, amazed you got that from my limited description, but makes sense. Then check, snap to document bounds, correct?

Any number of ways. You might have accidentally hit an arrow key whilst the Move tool was selected.

Typically, the photo is the background layer.
So duplicating it would give you a photo on top of a photo. -Mike
