I can not draw a circle with the marque tool.
I follow the instructions about holding down the shift key and it does not work. my cursor runs off the edge of the picture before i can get the circle.

why is this so difficult?

It is probably difficult for you because the circle is drawn from the corner, and you are expecting it to draw from the center. To make a circle around a square picture, start in any corner holding shift, and drag to the opposite corner (top left to bottom right).

If the image is a rectangle, drag until you have the full width. You can move the marquee if needed by clicking and dragging with the marquee tool.

(If you want to draw from the center out, you need to hold down another key along with shift … I think it is alt, but if not, try ctrl)

You can move the marquee while while you’re drawing it as well by temporarily holding the space bar down.

And if you hold down shift and Alt while you create the marquee, it will expand from the center.

select> transform selection, or just use the move tool.

No Dave, the move tool will move the contents of the selection. I am sure you mean to use the marquee tool, which will move the marquee itself.

If the Marquee Tool is still selected in the Toolbox, you may also use the arrow keys to move 1 pixel at a time; hold down the Shift key and use the arrow keys to move 10 pixels at a time.

Once you have your selection, you can click and hold inside the selection and drag it.

Hi James!

The best way of doing it is:
1- Click on the circular marquee
2- On the menu bar above, note "feather", "anti alias", and "style". Click
on "style". Change from "normal" to "fixed size". 3- To the immediate right, enter the sizes, either in inches (in), pixels (px) or whatever.
4- Click on the picture and the marquee will be the right size. Place it where you want.
Note: you can change the size as you wish and click again in the picture. It will be there.

Cheers,

Marcel

Make sure marquee tool is still selected and ‘new selection’ is selected on the toolbar(not add subtract or intersect) (-:
