Hi,

I hope you can help me.

I’ve been learning Photoshop for just 3 weeks and I’ve already done a lot of work on the following image.

http://img218.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=34060_rob_122_169 lo.jpg

The original imaged has been Cropped & Resized and I’ve inserted a Layer at the foot (made up of 5 separate Layers) with a border.

I got the faces (all those in on the joke) from other photos and got them to all the same size and proportion and I got the border by experimenting with the Canvas Size.

I’m pleased with my efforts so far but my attempts to remove the water hose reel to his right with the Clone Tool have been pretty poor. I’d also like to remove the evidence of the hosepipe to the left of his trunks and the green hazy line on the left leg.

I know I’ll be able to do this on my own in time but I’m doing this to insert the image into a Personalized Newspaper for his 40th Birthday on 7th Feb…. not much time to learn the skill properly

Hope you can help…. in the meantime, I’m continuing to have a go myself.

Kindest regards,

Mike 🙂

The original imaged has been Cropped & Resized and I’ve inserted a Layer at the foot (made up of 5 separate Layers) with a border.

I got the faces (all those in on the joke) from other photos and got them to all the same size and proportion and I got the border by experimenting with the Canvas Size.

There are more qualified people here than me in this area, but I would not try to clone out the hose reel. I’d try the patch tool and move a large section of the wall over that area and then clone to touch up the edges near the man’s body. It’s difficult to clone that large an area.

Alternatively, put a layer behind that image filled with the wall color and delete the hose reel section from the image layer by cutting out a selection. Use the smudge tool or the blur tool to cover any distinct break in color.

You could even cut out the entire right wall up to the horizontal white line on the image, and let the wall-colored layer behind show. That would be more uniform, and the two wall sections would look the same in color. The problem with doing the whole wall is that even though the wall looks the same in color top-to-bottom, there is a slight change in light/shadow.

The hosepipe to the left is a cloning job.

I gave it a try – here’s what worked for me:

1. Created duplicate of background layer (Ctrl & J)
2. Extracted man to new (third) layer
3. Sampled dark and light areas of wall – made them foreground and background colors
4. Created selection to include entire wall using polygonal lasso tool
5. Filled layer behind man with foreground to background diagonal
gradient – light color in upper right, dark color in lower left
6. Changed gradient layer to lighten mode
7. Selected top layer and stamped all layers to new top layer (Ctrl, Alt, Shift, & E keys)
8. Cloned out what little remained of the fire hose on right, and the hose section in front of him
9. Painted in a little black over his trunks in the cloned area to match

Wow!

Thanks for the expert help of both Tony Cooper & Sundance Kid!

I’ve tried both ways and my personal results have been poor so far but that’s only due to lack of understanding/skill with these new tequnique. I can see that I’ve got so much to learn!

As my deadline is tomorrow I will use the efforts of the Sundance Kid as I don’t want all his hard work to go to waste!

Kindest regards!
