Trying to install CS…

I’ve got a new installation of XP home edition on my computer with lots of free space on the drive, but get an error, "Installshield Setup Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"

I tried 2 different installations discs in 3 different CDROM/DVD drives with the same result, so it’s not a damaged CD.

It’s an AMD system, ASUS motherboard, 3DLABS AGP card, 512MB ram, XP SP2

ideas/suggestions/anyone?

Did CS install okay from either of these disks on your other computers?

Yes, the install discs are okay – worked fine before I rebuilt the computer and installed without a problem on my Dell 450 at work.

The fact that it is stalling at the install shield setup Launcher leads me to believe it is not actually Photoshop which is the problem. Have you installed any other programs on this computer?

Incidentally, for the scenario you have discribed (one computer at home and one at work) you didn’t really need to buy two copies of CS. The licence allows you to activate the program on two computers which are not being usd at the same time. This is perhaps something to consider if/when you upgrade to CS2.

I *have* been able to install other software such as Microsoft Office and other apps that I use.

I agree with you that it probably is a "windows thing" that is messing up the installation from starting, but have no idea how to proceed, maybe do a "repair windows installation" from the XP install disc to fix whatever is corrupt and getting in the way?

BTW, I didn’t buy two copies – but brought a copy home from work that I knew had worked there. I’m sure others will be happy to know it’s legal as you say to install a second copy on a laptop, etc.

To be honest, I would be inclined to fo a full reinstall, complete with format. Just "repairing" will pick up and preserve certain existing settings and it’s just possible you might retain the very glitch which is causing this.

To be perfectly honest I was just ‘fishing’. When you said you’d tried two different CS install disks it conjured up images of Long John Silver software!

Glad to know you’re legit.

Let us know how it goes after the reinstall

Chris.
