photoshop to illustrator help

Hi
We are having a brochure printed I have done the artwork in photoshop 7 but the printers prefare (don’t know why) to have the artwork in illustrator but when I open the photoshop file in illustrator all of the layers are flattened into one.Will this make a difference to how the artwork can be reproduced/printed/

The best thing to do to avoid surprises may be to flatten the image in PS (save it as a copy!) so you can see the effects of flattening before placing the file in AI

Go back to the printer and ask if they’ll take a PDF.

Save as PSD then use the file save as to save the PDF. Turn off layers, but embed text and vectors.

Use your export. It’s under file. Hope that helps.

That’s interesting because you have to deal with trapping and other issues which, on the surface, seem to handled
much better with Photoshop in native format being brought into another program by the people who understand the
printing process, your printers. The type however would
be better handled by Illustrator or a page layout program like "In Design" or Pagemaker or Quark. Is it a 4 color press? Do you have spot color? Do the graphics come
close to or overlap the graphics? which would necessitate a knockout and trapping. It would be interesting to hear what your printer gives as a reason for preferring Illustrator files. Please post. Thanks.
