Hi All,

I’m using CS2. I take a pile of pictures of books I’m selling, and run them through Photoshop before posting on the web. I do lens correction and color correction, then want to save as a jpg, at a "7" quality level.

After doing my corrections, File > Save As always comes up saving as a photoshop file (PSD) by default. I have to go to the dropdown list and select JPG. Once I type in the name I want, I have to set the quality level. I think it comes up at the setting I used last time I was in CS2.

Is there a way to have Photoshop do a File > Save As as a JPG by default? Further, is there a way to set the quality level to a default setting?

I know these seem like little things, but they add up time wise. (Annoyance wise, too.)

Thanks for any help,
Max

Have you tried "Save for Web"? I think it retains settings from the last save.

Thanks for any help,

That’s because you are creating layers or some other things that can’t be saved in a JPEG. Photoshop will never try to use a default that would cause you to lose data, such as layers; if you create layers, alpha channels, spot channels, or any other elements that can’t be saved as JPEG, Photoshop will not default to JPEG.

I knew that was why, I just hoped there was a way around it. 🙂 I’m getting really good at typing <Alt>-F, ‘A’, <TAB>, ‘J’, <Shift>-<TAB>. That all gets
me to a save as JPG, ready to type a filename. What I wouldn’t give for an old fashioned keyboard macro…
