Photoshop CS3
When I open a file in Photoshop that has just the background layer in the layers palate and than do a Ctrl+J it works right and gives me a new layer and it calls that new layer, Layer 1. Is there any setting that I can set so that it calls this new layer, Background copy, instead of Layer 1? Thanks

In the Layers palette, drag the Background layer onto the Layer icon.

That works, although it might not be what you wanted.

Just double click on "Layer 1" and enter whatever you want to call it, no?

In the Layers Palette where it says Layer 1, just double click on the words Layer 1 and it will allow you to rename the layer.

Instead of using Ctrl+J, use Ctrl+Alt+J to invoke a dialog box. You can rename the layer from there…
