I’ve drawn two circles with the path tool nad made them into one path in the Paths palette. Now I’d like to use the two shapes as a vector mask for a layer. I’d like the paths combined as a compound path. How to do this?

Scott, I’m not sure what you did, but you should be able to do this in PS only.

1) Draw your two circles.

2) Combine them using the Paths toolbar at the top (I’m using PS7); have the two paths set to "Add to shape area" and hit the combine button.

3) Make sure the active layer is the one you want masked.

4) With the path active (if needed, click on the path in the paths palette to activate it), right click on the image and the option to create a vector mask should be there. You can also go Layer>Add Vector Mask>Current Path.
